The Travel Foundation and Make Holidays Greener Week

The Travel Foundation is a UK charity that cares for the places we love to visit. Your holiday can make a real difference to your favourite destinations. It can help protect the natural environment, traditions and culture – the things that make your visit special. And it can improve the well-being of local families – so that more people benefit from your visit. All of which can make your holiday experience even better! Most importantly, it can help ensure that there are great places for us all to visit – for generations to come.

Sunvil, along with several other travel companies, is supporting the work of the Travel Foundation by donating 50p from every holiday booked to the charity and providing help in kind in the way of complimentary flights, accommodation and other services in order to help the workings of the charity. You will see on your holiday confirmation we have added £1 should you wish to match our contribution. Should you not wish to donate, simply deduct this amount from your final payment.
 
This has helped set up the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) where we encourage people to discover the ‘real’ Cyprus through the ‘village routes’. This local branch of the Travel Foundation has produced a booklet promoting a series of self-drive routes in Cyprus. The aim of the programme is to increase the diversity and quality of the tourism product whilst benefiting rural communities. Please ask us for a copy.

Over just the past three years, Sunvil and its clients have been successful in raising the impressive amount of £64,618 for various verified carbon offset projects. A further £18,724 has, in addition, been raised for UK charity The Travel Foundation. Our Managing director, Noel Josephides, also devotes a lot of his management/advisory time to the charity, having chaired the organisation for the past two years.

In 2010, the Travel Foundation launched its first 'Make Holidays Greener Week' which encouraged holidaymakers to do 3 things on their summer break to make a difference to the place that they are visiting and the people who live there.
