Medieval Sibiu, nominated European city of culture for 2007, is one of the prettiest and most vibrant towns in Romania. The Brukenthal museum, 9km north of Sibiu, is the largest in Transylvania and houses the finest art gallery in the country. This is a very musical town, with its own annual jazz festival. Originally, the town had 39 towers and was one of the best fortified towns in Romania.

Wonderfully romantic to explore, Sibiu has picturesque squares, intimate courtyards, wide stone staircases, cascading rooftops and narrow cobbled, twisting streets. There is a thriving music and café culture here – a town and a people with true character.
