The village of Zabala itself is well preserved due to its isolation, set far away from any towns and 13km down a country road that gradually leads into the surrounding hills and forests. It is the perfect base from which to explore other secluded villages with fortified churches.

Visit the village museums and the 15th century fortified Szekler Calvinist church, with its impressive ceiling decorated with unique, folk-style floral motifs. The local museum hosts a small private folk exhibit which gives an insight into the Hungarian ethnic group from Moldavia known as the ‘Csango people’ through their costumes and weavings.
