The island of Ithaca provides a refreshing holiday destination for those wanting to stay in a small, friendly community away from crowds, traffic lights, airports and motorways.
There is one road linking the north of the island to the south. Small roads and tracks bear off and lead to hidden hamlets, hilltop monasteries, sleepy seaside villages, deserted beaches and a peaceful and natural interior of olive groves and pine forest.
Many of our clients who visit Ithaca regularly, choose to stay there in May or June so that they can enjoy the experience of discovering local lifestyles and new parts of the island on foot without the stronger heat of the high summer months. We have therefore arranged a special walking holiday for those of you wanting a more personalised introduction to Ithaca’s hidden beauty.
Katrina Parsey is an English poet with a passion for exploring Greek islands on foot. Katrina has lived on Ithaca for the past ten years and has been leading walks in more recent years. Daily walks (for six days during the week), averaging five hours per walk in total, will introduce Ithaca’s more inquisitive visitor to the island’s history, mythology, flora and fauna. At a relaxed pace there will be breaks to enjoy stunning views and lunch (paid locally) at a traditional taverna. There will also be opportunities to discover the legendary places mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey.
Although most walks are rated easy to moderate, participants should be in good health and of reasonable fitness. Walking boots are recommended but good trainers will suffice.
The cost per person is £95 for the week of walks. Please ring our Reservations team on 020 8232 9780 to select from our Ithaca properties or to discuss arrangements in more detail. Our Ithaca Representative will introduce you to Katrina on the morning of 8th June.
