The famous battle of Khirokitia in 1426 between King Janus and the Mamluks chronicled by the ancient historian, Macheras, took place in the fields below the house. The battle marked the end of the Lusignian monarchy in Cyprus. Ruins of the ancient Castle of the Templars’ Commandery can be seen in the valley, as can the Byzantine Church of the Virgin.
