Northern Lights short break
The Aurora Borealis – a spectacular natural phenomenon featuring a myriad wave of colours dancing on the cosmic wind high in the sky – has fascinated man for many millennia. In an age where we know the scientific rationale for the Northern Lights, a sighting still delivers an emotional rush and a primaeval response that will be engraved in your memory for a lifetime. Watch nature’s greatest show unfold this winter on our three night holiday to Tromso in Northern Norway; a destination synonymous with the Aurora Borealis. Take your seat in the front row and await the magic.
From £942 per person
Return flights to Tromso airport (via Oslo Gardermoen) - Private transfers on arrival and on departure - 3 nights at the Clarion Hotel The Edge, Tromso (Bed & Breakfast) - All excursions detailed - Single room supplement on request
We would recommend that you book a tour that includes an activity, or a visit to a region of spectacular natural beauty, so that you have a wonderful evening regardless of a sighting. This three-night itinerary includes an evening Northern Lights tour and an evening Snowmobile tour, both far away from the artificial lights of the city.
On arrival at Tromso airport, you will be transferred to the Clarion Hotel The Edge in Tromso
Dog sled tour and Northern Lights tour (the chase and the bonfire):
Watch the awakening of the Arctic landscape this morning whilst experiencing the thrills of dog-sledding. Our chosen, small group 4-hour activity takes place on the island of Kvaloya near Tromso and offers all guests the opportunity to try their hand at mushing their own team of husky-dog sled. This evening we have included a small group (16 people) Aurora tour for your enjoyment. The tour will take you away from the artificial lights of Tromso in search of the Northern Lights. During the drive your local guide will tell you interesting facts about the Aurora Borealis, both scientific and folklore. The guide will also help you adjust your camera settings (if required) to enable you to capture the magical moment the Aurora Borealis appears in the sky above you.
Evening snowmobile tour:
Day at leisure in Tromso. Opportunity to visit the Arctic Cathedral, Polar Museum and Polaria, an arctic themed visitor centre. It is also possible to pre-book a range of winter excursions including reindeer-sled tours and whale and dolphin watching excursions with Sunvil. In the early evening, venture into the Valley of Finn (c.1 hour 15-minutes transfer each way) and traverse the frozen mountainous landscape on the back of a snowmobile. This is an exhilarating 7 hour excursion that includes a 30km snowmobile ride, a hot meal and the opportunity to try ice fishing. If conditions permit, you will find your journey illuminated by the green and crimson waves of the Northern Lights.
Transfer to Tromso airport for the return flight to the UK.
- Departures: Daily
- Duration: 15 November 2016 - 31 March 2017

Of course, we cannot guarantee a sighting with a natural occurrence but to increase your chances we would recommend that you:
- Leave the artificial lights of the city behind
- Choose excursions which offer the opportunity to ‘chase’ or ‘search’ for the Northern Lights; they have a higher success of sightings.
- Travel at the time of the new moon when the sky is at its darkest.
- Avoid travelling at the time of a full moon.
- Stay as long as you can. Four-nights or longer is ideal.
- But, above all, we would recommend that you book a tour that includes an activity or a visit to a region of spectacular natural beauty, so that you have a wonderful evening regardless of a sighting.
