Holidays to Garrovillas de Alconetar

Overview

Introduction

This small, medieval town of approximately 2,400 inhabitants is located 38 km (36 mins) from the regional capital of Caceres and close to the Portuguese border.  The town is surrounded by nature and is an excellent base for hiking in the surrounding landscapes.

Its main Constitution Square is enormous and is considered a historical and artistic monument, as are the churches of St Peter the Apostle and St Mary of Consolation, the sanctuary of Our Lady of Altagracia, the Convent of St Anthony of Padua and the Palace of the Counts of Alba de Liste within which the Hospederia Puente de Alconetar is located. The Jewish quarter, with its maze of narrow, winding streets is particularly enticing.  On the outskirts can be found the remains of the 2nd century Roman, flattened arch bridge of Alconetar.

Garrovillas de Alconetar is very near to Caceres, has a very good hotel and is ideal for those who want a quieter location close to nature and yet within easy striking distance of the regional capital.

Noel is Sunvil’s Chairman. Born in Cyprus in 1948, he joined John der Parthog at Sunvil in 1973. Before that and following university, he spent 3 years as a trainee buyer at C&A Modes and then worked for a large Cypriot builder and property developer for whom he set up a London Office buying electrical components for the Middle East and importing lemons from orchards in Cyprus. He still researches new destinations for Sunvil and is heavily involved in matters relating to the travel industry. He is a previous chairman of ABTA, a long standing director and previous chairman of The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) and former chairman of The Travel Foundation - the travel industry’s sustainability charity.
