A deluxe break to the ICEHOTEL

The specialist team at Sunvil have been arranging holidays to the ICEHOTEL for over a decade. We have watched the property grow and mould into the world-famous structure and year-round destination, that it is today; and we remain as excited and passionate about the hotel as we were in 2007. Our deluxe break to the ICEHOTEL draws on our experience and brings together a selection of our favourite winter excursions.

Wildlife photography tour and a wilderness dinner: The winter landscape of the Arctic is truly magical and changes day-by-day, as the sun returns after the winter solstice. In December, the moon illuminates the scene - even at midday; in January dusky pinks line the horizon and by March bright blue skies can be enjoyed. On our four-hour photography tour (09:30-13:30), you will be led into the wilderness by your local guide to shoot winter panoramas and, hopefully, the wildlife which call the region their home. Your guide will share stories of their life in Northern Sweden and will teach you how to spot, and track, the footprints of reindeer, moose, ptarmigan and fox. This is an interesting tour that will both educate and enable you to see the ornate details of your surroundings through the lens of a camera. After a leisurely afternoon, we have included a three course evening meal at the ICEHOTEL’s wilderness camp. Sit back and relax around a roaring fire, away from the artificial lights of Jukkasjarvi, whilst a warming dinner is prepared by your local guide. A pre-dinner drink is included and, if weather conditions permit, a chance to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky above.

Trapline dog-sled tour and Northern Lights tour by private snowmobile: Today, after breakfast, you will join our most popular dog sled tour. Our four-hour excursion (10:15-14:15) allows you to try your hand at mushing your own team of huskies across the white landscape, under the supervision of an expert, local musher who has dedicated his life to training and breeding his dogs. His dogs love to run and you will see the excitement in their eyes as you prepare for your trip. A short snowshoe walk is also included. This evening, venture into the starlit wilderness on the back of your private snowmobile in search of the Aurora Borealis. Away from all artificial lights, your eyes will be drawn upwards towards the heavens and, should conditions permit, the colourful waves of the Northern Lights. An evening meal in a wilderness camp is also included.
