Easter in Greece
Easter is a major festival in Greece - bigger than Christmas - and Greek Easter celebrations are famed worldwide. All are welcome!
Each island and village has its own special traditions – these may include parading the mummified body of the island’s saint through the streets followed by the hurling of pottery from upper storey windows (Corfu Town) to burning an effigy of Judas on the beach (Loutro in Crete). However, wherever you stay there will be a Good Friday candlelit procession from the church, Saturday night mass when every light goes on at midnight (and fireworks are despatched with little regard for health and safety!), and Easter Sunday feasting (which carries on for a few days in some areas), often communal, on spit-roast lamb or goat accompanied by quantities of village wine.
This is Greece at her best and a visit at this time is highly recommended. Please contact us for details of availability over Greek Easter.
