Holidays to Paros

Overview

Introduction

Paros, a short hop to the west of Naxos, is smaller and less dramatic, but does get busy in season. The beaches are excellent, and it is probably the best island of all from which to do a little island hopping – every ferry in the Aegean seems to dock at one time or another!

A gentle landscape hides windmills and sparkling white villages. The pretty resort village of Naoussa in the north still retains some of its fishing village atmosphere around the harbour area, although busy in summer. There is a good selection of beaches to choose from, some best reached by boat.

On Paros’ east coast, to the south of the pretty village of Piso Livadi, you will find miles of uncrowded sand.

The satellite island of Antiparos, just a 10 minute ferry hop from the west coast of Paros, can feel like a refuge. Antiparos has most attractive little port with a sophisticated, counter-cultural vibe. Life revolves around its elegant waterfront and main street, beneath a canopy of flaming bougainvillea.

The town has beaches of its own, but they get better as you go south, the pick being Soros which has a couple of tavernas. The island is distinguished by a spectacular set of hilltop caves more than 100 metres deep, with a stunning array of huge stalagmites and stalactites.

It is easy to pop across to Paros for the day, as ferries are frequent and cheap. A trip to the nearby island of Despotiko is a highlight: heavily populated in ancient times due to its strategic maritime position, it is now uninhabited, leaving behind the ruins of its Hellenistic and Roman past. Coupled with its empty beaches and striking sea-caves, the deserted island seems to have been created from the romantic imagination. 

Getting There

Fly to Mykonos or Santorini, transfer to the port, ferry to the island (included), onward transfer to your accommodation (20-30 mins). On the return the reverse applies (alternatively fly via Athens with onward domestic flight or ferry).

Representation

On Paros we have appointed local agents who arrange your transfers, can give information, book cars and excursions, and can be contacted if required. However, it is important to state that we do not employ our own representatives, nor are transfers escorted, so our holidays here are recommended for the more independent traveller.

Ferries

Please bear in mind that travel plans involving ferries can be disrupted at short notice due to the vagaries of ferry timetables, high winds etc. Although rare, should this occur we will rebook your hotels and transfers accordingly.

Multi-Centre Options

Santorini, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos can all be combined – the minimum stay on each is 3 nights. For transfer reasons the island from which you are flying home from should be booked as your last centre.

PAROS ISLAND TOUR (with English speaking guide)
 
Duration: Approximately 8 hours

Note: Every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday (or Sunday).

Our excursion starts at 9:00 at Parikia.

As we walk to the castle and the church of Saints Constantine and Helen, where is the old town and the most scenic spot of .Then, walking through the alleys , we arrive at one of the main attractions of Paros , Panagia Ekatontapiliani , one of the oldest churches in the country built around 400 AD, also called the church with One Hundred gates. Not only is it an architectural and archaeological monument, the church of Our Lady of the One Hundred gates is also one of the most important pilgrimage sites throughout Greece.

From there the bus takes us to the port of Punda where we will take the ferry to Antiparos. We will stroll through the picturesque little town and visit the Venetian fortress (15th century) which is still inhabited. Returning to Paros, we cross the southern coast, where we pass the villages of Alyki and Drios and then reach Piso Livadi, where we take our break. You will have some free time for lunch (optional basis) or even to swim.
The traditional architecture of Paros, you will see with a stroll in Lefkes, the former capital of Paros, is built amphitheatrically in cruciform shape at an altitude of 250 metres in the centre of the island. It is surrounded by small forest areas, olive groves and vineyards. It is characterised by its beautiful pine forests which covers one side of the village.
In the afternoon we arrive at Naoussa, the beautiful fishing village with all its Cycladic charm. We take a little walk through its small roads and the port with the colourful fishing boats, which is one of the most picturesque in Greece . An ideal background for great photos!
At around 17:00 you are taken back to your hotel.

CRUISE AROUND ANTIPAROS (BEACH EXPLORATION & BBQ).  
A “BACK TO NATURE” CAIQUE* CRUISE TO ANTIPAROS ISLAND, INCLUDING LUNCH.

This excursion is escorted but there is no guide.

Departs daily. Minimum participation: 15 passengers

The cruise offers a unique aspect of the return to the untamed beauty and life in nature. The below itinerary is indicative since the captain will choose the best spots for each cruise according to weather conditions so you can spend unique moments on board around Antiparos island.
  • Discover Panteronissi: the turquoise waters will give you the feeling that you are in a huge swimming pool created by Nature herself.
  • The wild morphology of the southeast cost surrounded from cliffs plunging into the sea forming a successions of cave including the cave of Mastihari.
  • Several stops for swimming in crystal blue water.
During the excursion local wine and soft drinks are served and in the afternoon you can enjoy a barbecue prepared with love from your captain. The return to the port of Pounta is at 17.00. You can go back to your accommodation in comfort with one of our buses by arranging your transfer services with Anemomylos travel.

DELOS – MYKONOS (One day cruise)  This excursion does not have a guide.
 
Duration: Approximately 10 hours

Price: 50 Euro per person, Children (4-10 years): 25 Euro
 
(DELOS entrance fee is 12,00 Euro and is not included in the price)

Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday excursions. Departure from Naoussa port at 09:30 and returns to port at 18:20. Return transfers from hotel to the port are free of charge. Guests staying in hotels in Naoussa will need to make their own way to the port.

Come with us and visit the islands of Delos and Mykonos, an excursion that combines the interest in history and archeology with cosmopolitan style! Transfer from your hotel, or a stop located close to it, to the port. The excursion boat starts its journey from the port of Naoussa at 09:30 and it arrives in Delos at 10:20. Admire Delos, the small granite birthplace of the god of light. A visit of great historical and archaeological interest.

History of over three thousand years unfolds on the monuments. Surely you will feel that you have disembarked and got carried away to another time. Whilst at Delos you can admire, among others, the sanctuary of Apollo, the processional gallery of Lions, the theater, the gallery and the House of the Naxians, the Temple of Leto as well as the wonderful exhibits in the local museum. After three hours, you will leave to the next island. Discover a very different scenery: the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos with its unparalleled Cycladic architecture. Discover what made the island so famous and listed among the top travel destinations worldwide: its lovely narrow streets, the famous windmills, the unique “ little Venice”. Golden sandy beaches and the Aegean landscape overwhelmed with whitewash and blue colors puts a spell on fortunate visitors!
At 17:00 departure to Paros island . At 18:20 we arrive back in Naoussa. Transfer back to your hotel or a stop located close to it.

ONE DAY CRUISE TO SANTORINI.
 
Duration: Approximately 11 hours

Price: 65 Euro per person, Children (4-10 years): 35 Euro

Departs every Wednesday. This excursion is escorted but there is no guide.  Departure from Piso Livadi at 08:00 - Return to Piso Livadi at 19:20. Return transfers from your hotel to the port are free of charge.

Santorini is the island of fire, according to the legend of Atlantis. It is the most photogenic island in the world, with its sparkling white capital, clinging to the edge of its red cliffs.
Upon arrival at Santorini, in Athinio at 10:30, our bus will pick you up and take you to the charming, artistic village of Oia, and then to the stunning town of Fira, the island’s capital.
This island is completely different from all the other Cycladic islands, and its wild and imposing beauty is characterised by its endless beaches of red and black pebbles. The domes of the houses built into the red rock, the grand old mansions and their courtyards with brightly colored pebbles, the two cathedrals (Catholic & Orthodox) and its picturesque capital, all come together to create an outstanding vision of beauty. There will be plenty of time to stroll around the beautiful alleyways and admire the breathtaking views that Santorini offers.
After a 6 hours stay and a unique experience, at 16:30, we board the “Naxos Star” and head back to Paros.

SAILING TO KOUFONISSIA 

Duration: Approximately 9 hours.

Departs: Daily from Piso Livadi port at 09:45 and returns at 19:30.

Minimum participants: 20

Discover the amazing Koufonisia. Our cruise begins at 09.45 from Piso Livadi Port. Until there, we can transfer you safely and comfortably with our buses by booking the transfer services of our agency.
First stop is the picturesque Agios Sostis on the south of Naxos to admire the small beautiful church that literally decorates this bay. It was built by fishermen who found shelter there from the storm.
Our second stop will be in the south of Kato Koufonissi to admire the impressive caves and then the beautiful Glaronisi. The crystal clear waters and beauty will amaze you and fill your camera with unique photos. A wonderful experience you will never forget.
Then we will enjoy the barbecue which is prepared for us with love from the captain on the south side of Kato Koufonisi. Later on we will go around the harbour by boat and stop to enjoy swimming on the north side of the island before sailing back to Paros. Return to the port of Piso Livadi at 19.30. From there we return you to your accommodation with comfort in our luxurious buses.
This itinerary is tentative since the captain will choose the best spots for each cruise according to weather conditions so you can spend unique moments on board.

One day cruise to Koufonissi

Duration: Approximately 7 hours
Price: 40,00 Euro per person. Children (4-10 years old) 20,00 Euro

Departs: Every Friday from Piso Livadi port at 09:15 and returns at 19:15. Return transfers from your hotel to the port are free of charge.

Come with us to visit Koufonisia. The excursion starts from Piso Livadi at 09:15 and reaches Koufonisia port at 10:35. Arriving on the island, the white windmill that stands on the left of the port seems to welcome the visitor. Its paradise beaches, all almost sandy, complement the magnificent view of the island. You will be there for 4 hours, in which you can swim and enjoy fresh fish in the traditional tavernas of the island or just explore the beautiful narrow streets.

At 18:00 you will get on board and you will be back to Piso Livadi at around 19:20.

One day cruise to Amorgos.

Duration: Approximately 10 hours

Departures: Every Friday at 09:15 from Piso Livadi port and returns at 19:15. Return transfers from your hotel to the port are free of charge.

Come with us to Amorgos, the most eastern island of the Cyclades, its elongated shape seems to protect the eastern small Cyclades. The excursion boat starts its journey from Piso Livadi at 09:15 and reaches Katapola port at 11:45. Amorgos stands proudly in the center of the South Aegean Sea, making it the crossroads where the North meets the South. The mountain scenery, the traditional lifestyle and the endless blue of the sea will captivate you. It is also worth visiting beautiful Chora and the unique monastery of Chozoviotissa.

At 17:00 you will get on board and return to Piso Livadi at around 19:20.
