Holidays to Kimolos

The island has only two settlements to speak of - the small port of Psathi and the main village of Chorio above. Psathi has a shingle beach and a couple of tavernas plus cafes. Chorio has more choice and is only a 15 minute walk up the hill (also served by the island taxi and, in season, minibus). Chorio is a classic whitewashed Greek 'capital' and has a lovely Venetian kastro, two small museums, a handsome 16th century church, fine views and the usual labyrinth of small lanes in which to get lost.

Washed by the clearest of seas, Kimolos has over a dozen named beaches, the best being Prassa, with fine white sand shelving into aquamarine water, and Bonatsa. Both can be walked to (c 5 kms and 3 kms from Chorio respectively) and have a summer taverna. Alternatively the minibus runs in season and cars can be hired. Kimolos has a surprisingly good network of walking paths (see www.kimolos.gr); boat trips run to nearby Polyaigos island, inhabited only by goats; and it is easy to pop over to Milos for the day.

Really an island for those wanting a complete escape and who appreciate the timeless nature of small traditional Greek islands. Please note these ferry tickets have to be paid on board (€2.10 in 2017).
