Holidays to Molyvos

Dominating the village are the remains of the castle, built in the mid 13th century by Byzantines and renovated by the Genoese. Still a working museum, concerts are held here regularly in the summer and the climb rewards with panoramic views out over the Aegean to the Turkish coast and the ancient city of Troy. Inhabited since antiquity, Molyvos occupies a wonderful defensive position. A maze of cobbled lanes contains a good number of small shops, restaurants and cafes and wisteria and flowers abound. In the evenings there are bars and cafes to visit but these tend to be small and larger discos for the young are located outside the village itself.

As you wander back down through the meandering cobbled streets, you can choose between stopping for a cool drink in one of the traditional cafes or dining in one of the balcony restaurants, a particular feature of Molyvos, that overlook the village. From here, your eye is drawn to the picturesque fishing harbour where local fishermen still venture out everyday so you can be sure to dine on your choice of fresh fish and seafood. The working harbour, with its handful of fish restaurants, is especially atmospheric.

An arts festival runs in high summer evenings within the castle walls. In July and August there is also an open-air cinema (films in English). 

Molyvos has a long pebble beach with sunbeds and seasonal watersports available. Alternatively try Eftalou, just to the east, where you can also experience natural thermal baths under a domed Turkish roof.

If you want the feeling that you are walking in the footsteps of the Gods through a stunningly beautiful setting, Molyvos cannot be beaten.
