Today it remains one of Costa Rica's largest and most active volcanoes and this fact alone is enough to attract thousands of visitors per year. La Paz Waterfall Gardens is the most visited privately owned ecological attraction in Costa Rica. It features the most famous waterfalls in Costa Rica, butterfly observatory, a rescued wildlife preserve with many rare animal species and an environmental education program.

Morning group guided canal boat trip. Once an archipelago of volcanic islands, Tortuguero (“turtle place”) blurs the distinction between the sea and dry land. The jungle may fringe the National Park, but water reigns supreme. In abundance are lagoons, wetlands, beaches and canals, which demand to be explored by boat. Travelling by motor launch you could encounter a huge variety of exotic creatures including turtles, sloths, caiman and Spider & Howler monkeys that can be found in the jungle that fringes the canals and beaches. Magically, in July and August you can be guided on moonlit nights to watch the turtles labouring their way onto the beaches to lay their eggs – an extraordinary sight you will never forget.

Day

Group boat and road transfer to Guapiles, followed by private transfer to Arenal. The area is dominated by the Arenal Volcano (currently dormant) which rises out of the lush tropical rain forest. It is a wonderful area for walking, horse riding, zip-ling and bird watching. In addition, there are natural hot springs where it is possible to swim. The local town of La Fortuna that sits at the foot of the volcano has a variety of shops, cafes and simple restaurants.

Day

Arenal Hanging Bridges is a fascinating walk through tropical rainforest using a series of bridges that are suspended high above the forest floor.
