Day at leisure.
Sarapiqui houses some of the best preserved primary rainforest in the country. It is an excellent area for wildlife and nature with La Selva Biological Station and the Braulio Carrillo National Park located nearby.
Self drive to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
Day at leisure. An opportunity to arrange a tour of the wildlife refuge.
Cano Negro is one of the premier areas in the Americas to observe huge concentrations of both migratory and indigenous birds, along with reptilian river wildlife. It is created by the seasonal flooding of the River Frio so, depending upon what time of the year you visit, you may find yourself travelling around a broad lake in a motorboat or walking along mud-caked riverbeds. The rainy season is May-November when Cano Negro is at its fullest. However, the rainy season is not necessarily the best time to see most wildlife. The best time for birders is considered to be from January until March, when most migratory species of birds are in residence.
Self drive to Arenal.
Days at leisure. A chance to explore the beautiful region.
The area is dominated by the Arenal Volcano (currently dormant) which rises out of the lush tropical rain forest. It is a wonderful area for walking, horse riding, zip-ling and bird watching. In addition, there are natural hot springs where it is possible to swim. The local town of La Fortuna that sits at the foot of the volcano has a variety of shops, cafes and simple restaurants.
Self drive to Monteverde.
Day at leisure. A chance to explore the Monteverde cloud forest.
Monteverde is situated on a plateau 3,500 feet above sea level. The unmade track to Monteverde makes for a bone-shaking journey. However, it is well worth the effort if you are interested in birds and there is a good choice of activities.
Self drive to San Jose Airport. Fly to Drake Bay and take boat trip along the coast to lodge in the Corcovado National Park.
Located on the Osa Peninsula, Corcovado National Park has earned a reputation for some of the nation’s best wildlife viewing. Furthermore, due to its remote location, it benefits from being less frequented by visitors compared to other parts of Costa Rica.
Group guided hike in the Corcovado National Park.
Group guided excursion to Cano Island for snorkelling.
Boat transfer to Drake Bay Airport for flight to San Jose. Upon arrival, private transfer to hotel.
Transfer to the airport for flights back to the UK.
