Streymoy is by far the largest island and is home to the capital city of Tórshavn, said to be the smallest capital city in the world. Tórshavn is a pretty town with a maze of narrow cobbled lanes bordered by grass-roofed cottages, and serves as an ideal touring base. It is also on Streymoy that you will find the famous Vestmanna bird cliffs on the west coast, idyllic hamlets like Saksun in the north and the impressive historic site of Kirkjubøur in the south.
