Introduction

Legend has it that a farmer was herding his cows down from the high Pyrenees of Girona when heavy snow began to fall and the cows stopped for shelter in a beautiful spot. The farmer decided that that was the place to create a settlement and so built seven houses for his seven sons.

Setcases (seven houses) is set in the Camprodon Valley in the heart of the Pyrenees 4,040 ft above sea level. The mountains above are the source of the swiftly flowing, bubbly Ter River which flows below the village. Setcases is a picturesque mountain village with carefully restored houses and cobbled alleys. There is a charming centre and the name has been documented as far back as 965 AD.

Behind the village is the ski resort of Vallter 2000 with peaks rising to 9,452 ft is a 20-minute drive from the village. Many pretty villages are there to be explored in the lush valleys surrounding Setcases.

The village is two-and-a-half-hour drive from Barcelona airport and one and a half hours from Girona. If you are interested in hiking then look no further as there are local walks as well as longer hikes as far down as the Costa Brava.
