But it is the legacy of a period of great prosperity between the 15th and 18th centuries that created the magnificent historic buildings for which the region is famed. On this four-night break we have chosen two properties, both housed within a splendid historic structure. The first is the Pousada Rainha Santa Isabel, in the castle of the royal city of Estremoz. The second is the Historic Design Pousada of Dom Afonso which is found in the medieval style castle of Alcacer do Sal.
