Sailing in Turkish Waters

Departure day is Monday

Transfer time is approximately 40 minutes from Bodrum/Milas airport

Our sailing partners in Turkey are Broadblue Charters who are based at the modern marina in Yalikavak - about 10 miles from Bodrum Town and 23 miles from Bodrum airport. All Broadblue's team live locally and know the craft in their fleet intimately. They are obviously familiar with the sailing grounds and will give you sound, accurate advice when planning your route. Such close personal involvement by Malcolm and the Broadblue team means nothing is left to chance.

Yalikavak, which lies at the north-west corner of the Bodrum Peninsula, used to be a fishing and sponge divers' village. The area is renowned for its superb sunsets, and its sparkling clean sea is one of the few remaining abodes of the endangered "Monachus Monachus" Mediterranean seal. The marina's combination of exceptional architectural design, the availability of state- of-the-art sailing equipment and the facilities of a luxury holiday resort make for an ideal location. Off the village square is an array of shops, market stalls, restaurants, doner kebab stands, tea houses and charming bars - all with that special stamp of Turkey.

Just a few minutes stroll away from the small bustling town centre is Port Bodrum, Yalikavak's new Marina. The marina offers first-class facilities which include restaurants, bars, yacht club, supermarket & shopping centre, Internet, bank & ATM facilities, chandlery and excellent toilet & shower amenities.  Port Bodrum also has the advantages of a cooling sea breeze all summer, a quiet location (No noisy all night discos in the vicinity), fabulous sailing grounds to the north, south, east and west.

With the relaxation of formalities, it is now easy to sail and roam back and forth between the Turkish coast and Greek Islands.

Your Arrival in Turkey

When you arrive at our base in Yalikavak and look out to sea you become aware of a glorious view of a long chain of picturesque islands hugging the coast. Although they seem little more than a stone's throw away, they are not Turkish - they are the fascinating Greek, Dodecanese Islands.

Only 3 miles from the Turkish coast and shielding the entrance to the Gulf of Gokova is Kos, a lush, green and wooded island.

Eating out is a way of life for the Turks. Their cuisine offers a huge variety of flavours and is ranked as one of the best in the world. It is also extremely good value and inexpensive. Typically, a two course meal with wine is around £10.00. The setting is often as memorable as the meal itself.

The gleaming yachts and gaily painted fishing boats in the harbour are a delight to watch from one of the relaxed and friendly waterfront cafes. The restaurants of Yalikavak have not yet succumbed to international cuisine, but offer some of the freshest and tastiest local cooking in the area.

Broadblue operate a fleet of modern yachts and catamarans. The yachts range from a Beneteau Oceanis 321 to a Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 473 and the catamarans range from the Broadblue 38 to the Broadblue 435. A few of these craft are shown below but the full range can be viewed on the Broadblue Charter web site www.broadbluecharters.com

Many of the world's largest and best preserved archaeological sites are found here. Dotted all around are ancient buildings and ruins dating back to the start of civilisation. With turquoise seas, an unspoiled coastline, spectacular scenery and numerous sheltered inlets, Turkey is magnificent.

The weather offers exciting and predictable sailing conditions.

Being sub-tropical, Turkey enjoys cloudless blue skies & pleasant warm weather from April - November.Temperatures range from the low 20s in spring and autumn to the 30s throughout the summer.

The mornings bring a light and variable breeze building up to force 3-5 North Westerly every afternoon. This fades to provide calm and peaceful nights at anchor.
