Ten times the size of the United Kingdom, Argentina is the second largest country in South America after Brazil, being 1,580 kms from east to west and 3,460 kms from north to south. To fly from Iguazu in the north to Ushuaia in the south takes much the same time as from London to Cyprus. To the north it has borders with Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia, to the west is Chile and to the east, the Atlantic Ocean.
“Patagonia, with its enormous skies and far reaching views, is particularly beautiful at sunrise and in the early evening as the light reflects off the Andean range.”
Everything in this country is on an enormous scale. The Iguazu Falls in the North East of the country and the Perito Moreno Glacier in the South-West, are considered to be two of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world.
Argentina has everything. To the North and East there is sub-tropical rain forest and a vast area of wetland home to an array of exotic wildlife. Across to the North-West of the country there are dramatic mountain valleys and major pre-Hispanic ruins.
Moving down the spine of the Andes from the North-West, there is the famous wine growing region of Mendoza. The enormous agricultural heart of the country, the Pampas, is home to the legendary Gauchos (Argentinean Cowboys) and Sheep and Cattle Estancias that cover enormous tracts of flat, windswept land. Buenos Aires lies on the East coast, and is the fantastically vibrant and cultured capital of Argentina.
Patagonia encompasses a diverse range of landscapes in the south of the country. The beautiful Lake District in Northern Patagonia is host to over 30 glacial lakes and Bariloche is the main base from which to engage in many activities including skiing, walking, fishing and climbing. The sea mammal colonies of Peninsula Valdes, located on the Patagonian Coast, are one of the Real Argentina 171 most important marine reserves on the planet, and this area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To the South-Western end of Patagonia is the Los Glaciers National Park with the Famous Perito Moreno and Upsala Glaciers.
Tierra del Fuego lies at the southern most tip of the country and is home to sub-Antarctic forests and the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia.
This is a friendly, civilised, European influenced country, where you can eat well and enjoy a high standard of accommodation. Its natural heritage is protected by 19 national parks.
To compliment this beautiful country, we now offer an extension to Punta del Este in Uruguay. Punta del Este is an upscale Uruguayan beach resort located 130 kms east of the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo. Widely acclaimed as the “St Tropez” of South America, Punta del Este is the perfect place to relax on the beach after a trip to Argentina.
To make the most of this stunning country, we have suggested several itineraries, some including transfers and excursions with local guides and others with self-drive to give independence and flexibility. However, please don’t forget that we can tailor make any itinerary.
