The Mountains
The Mountains holidays
They say that Cyprus is more heavily wooded per square metre than Canada and this is largely due to the heavily forested mountain ranges which cover a large part of the island. The island’s forestry department, British trained, is the best in the Mediterranean and the Cypriots are fanatical about looking after their forests. The highest point, Mount Olympus in Troodos rises to 1,952 metres.
The mountains are cool in summer and regularly snow-bound in winter, affording some skiing. These are areas for walkers and lovers of nature (the Cyprus Tourist office publishes a leaflet featuring a good selection of nature trails). Tourists do not tend to penetrate this far.
Our fly-drive holidays combining sea with mountain are some of our most popular and we offer a range of accommodation within the Troodos and Paphos mountains in villages like Platres, Pedhoulas, Kakopetria and Agros. Yet the sea is never very far away.
