Springtime is always a lovely time of year to visit Europe. The crowds have yet to arrive, there is a warmth in the air and the colourful blossoms are starting to show. If you are looking to scratch underneath the surface of a destination and discover the real country - its history, culture, gastronomy and people, this is the perfect time to travel.

From the high Arctic archipelago of Svalbard to the westernmost point of Europe and across the Mediterranean we have much to offer this season. Our latest blog highlights some of our most popular spring escapes including festivals taking place on the Greek Islands and our range of city breaks.

Greece at springtime

Corfu

This most northerly of the Ionian islands is the greenest and, perhaps surprisingly, one of the most traditional of them all. Corfu’s charm and beauty have captivated visitors for generations and remain as intoxicating as ever.

From 8th-12th May the Corfu Food & Wine festival takes place to promote and highlight the gastronomy of the Ionian islands.

Stoupa

The village of Stoupa lies just over an hour's drive south from Kalamata and a short distance from Kardamili. The setting is complemented with a backdrop of olive covered hills and the magnificent Taygetos mountains - a truly stunning location with all the facilities for a relaxed holiday.

Kardamili's International Jazz Festival takes place from 4th until 11th May with musicians from across the globe.

Greek Easter

Greek Easter will be celebrated from April 25 2019 and is the principal festival of the Orthodox church.  Preparations begin on Holy Thursday. Easter bread (tsoureki) is baked and eggs are coloured with red dye. Red is the colour of life and also symbolic of the blood of Christ.

Celebrate this unique celebration in Greece's enigmatic capital with our Short break to Athens itinerary.

Cyprus at springtime

Troodos Mountains

Cyprus is already enjoying temperatures of 18C. By April these temperatures will be in the mid-20's. Considering the dank weather forecast this weekend that sounds heavenly.

Walking in the Troodos Mountains in spring is a treat for nature lovers. Choose from one of the more remote paths and walk for hours with nothing but magnificent views and the vibrant colours of the season for company.

Norway at springtime

Hardangerfjord in a nutshell tour

Stretching 179km from the North Sea, the Hardangerfjord is familiarly known as the ‘orchard of Fjord Norway’ as its waters are lined with an abundance of fruit trees and farms. We love exploring this region in the spring (May-Jun) when the fruit trees are in blossom and the waterfalls full of melting snow. We are sure that you will enjoy the scene of majestic mountains and roaring waterfalls as much as we do!

Svalbard

There are a few places on earth that even the most seasoned of travellers will feel privileged to visit, and one of these destinations is the high Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

From 19 April the Midnight Sun arrives in the capital, Longyearbyen. At this time of year the sun does not set below the horizon - a moving natural phenomenon, and yet there is still snow in the mountains and winter experiences on offer.

The Azores at springtime

Azores Three Island Tour (A)

Spring is a fantastic time to visit the remote, stunning, and often overlooked Portuguese islands of the Azores. Situated 850 miles off the southwest coast of Portugal in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, these islands have long been a stop off for voyaging traders – infusing the area with a unique blend of cultural influences.

On our three-island itinerary you will capture the unique character and charm of Sao Miguel, Faial and Pico.

Sicily at springtime

Delicious Sicily

Sicily shows traces of all cultures that have existed on the island over the last two millennia. Although its cuisine has a lot in common with Italian cuisine, Sicilian food also has Greek, Spanish, French and Arab influences. To this can be added a wealth of ingredients that is exceptional even by Italian standards, the fruits of a fertile land and an abundant sea.

Our 7-night itinerary introduces you to the gastronomic flavours and local wines of Sicily.

City Breaks at springtime

When the weather begins to warm, wandering around a new city is a delight. We offer city breaks across our European holiday programmes. Choose from the Scandinavian cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo, Copenhagen, Oslo and Bergen; the Portuguese cities of Lisbon and Porto; the Spanish cities of Cordoba and Granada; the Italian cities of Milan, Verona, Venice, Florence, Rome and more; as well as Thessaloniki in Greece.

All our city breaks can be tailored to meet your individual requirements and travel plans.

And further afield...

Across the Atlantic Ocean, Central and South American countries are enjoying the delights of autumn. It is a wonderful time of year to experience the sights, sounds and smells of this diverse region.

Chris is the Sunvil Group’s managing director and is not only responsible for the overall running of the company, the welfare of its staff, the fabric of the building, the efficient working of its computer systems but also for overseeing and contracting much of the accommodation on the GIC The Villa Collection programme. He is a very hands on managing director, a friend and helper to all, mad on aircraft and indefatigable. Chris joined The Greek Islands Club in 1993, after two years running a scouts’ holiday camp in Wales. He was responsible for maintaining The Club’s sailing boats on Paxos and generally acting as a rep for the villas. Sunvil Inherited Chris on purchasing GIC in 1998 and his abilities were quickly realised. He well deserves the top job.
