We have been organising fly-drive holidays to the Greek mainland for the last 30 years. Many associate Greece with islands. In fact, the mainland is breathtakingly beautiful and Greece is the second most mountainous country in Europe. Half the size of the UK and with good roads, the mainland of Greece is full of surprises. The accommodation is good, restaurants plentiful and the scenery spectacular.
In April 2006, with spring in full bloom and temperatures around 20 – 23 ºC, I followed one of our typical northern Greece itineraries in order to update our files and inspect new hotels. I don’t expect our clients to cover 1,470 kilometres in 8 days and stay in 6 hotels, but there was a lot to see and I had little time. Two to three weeks is the right timescale. Some of my photographs will, I hope, whet your appetite.
