Get in touchOn account of its mass of quartz crystals, Chapada has been identified as the brightest point on earth as seen from space. Its 160,000 acres provide one of the oldest and most unusual tropical ecosystems, recognized as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site on account of its unique biodiversity. Famed for its proliferation of extraordinary rock formations – some are 1.8 billion years old – in some places it resembles a bizarre and beautiful lunar landscape. The rocks have created space for towering waterfalls, caves, grottoes and exquisite swimming holes.
The vegetation rarely grows beyond ground-high, perfect for the hiker to see wildlife once close to extinction. Swamp deer, jaguars, rheas, giant armadillos, great anteaters, toucans and king vultures are just a few of the species to be seen.
