Agios Nikitas

Overview

Introduction

Located on Lefkas rugged north west coast 16 kms from Lefkas Town, Agios Nikitas is the prettiest seaside village on the island and enjoys a stunning setting. It occupies a narrow valley that runs between steep pine clad hills down to the sea and a fine beach.

In fact some of the best beaches on the island lie to either side - from Pefkoulia, which stretches for a mile to the north of the village, to famous Kathisma lying below sheer cliffs a 10 minute drive to the south. Between the two is beautiful Milos - only accessible by water taxi or on foot, a 45 minute hike up and over the headland. The beaches are near-white fine shingle/sand, the sea a translucent blue and all with a backdrop of green pines.

Due to the topography, Agios Nikitas has one main street (pedestrianised in season) leading down to the beach, off which are the village's selection of around eight taverna restaurants plus a handful of beach cafes, bars and small shops. There is a bus to town but we’d recommend car hire for further exploration.

During summer weekends and Greek holiday periods Agios Nikitas unsurprisingly gets very busy so the best time to go is off-season if you can.
