Mesmerising landscapes

The Fjord region is a delightful destination for a flydrive holiday with breathtaking views visible at every turn. This 14-night itinerary takes in the Sognefjord and the Geirangerfjord as well as offering the opportunity to visit Hanseatic city of Bergen and the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund. Sunvil would recommend a visit to the Jostedalsbreen National Park and its fascinating visitor centre; a ride on the Flåm Railway; a walk in the mountains and a cruise or a canoe trip on the glistening waters.

On arrive at Bergen Flesland airport, pick-up your hire car and drive 30km to the Solstrand Hotel and Spa in Osoyro

2-4

Free time in Osoyro and the surrounding region.This is a great opportunity to explore the Hardangerfjord, familiarly known at the Queen of the Fjords, with its backdrop of majestic mountains, powerful waterfalls and idyllic fruit farms. Alternatively, you can take the bus into Bergen and explore Norway’s second city and its Hanseatic quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Transfer to the picturesque village of Balestrand on the northern shores of the Sognefjord (c. 3 1/2 hours). As well as offering a choice of hiking trails to suit all abilities, Balestrand is the departure point for cruises on the Sognefjord and along the Fjaerlandfjord.

Free time in Balestrand. For those wishing to learn more about how flowing ice has sculpted the landscape of the fjord region, we would recommend a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Fjaerland. Day excursions possible from Balestrand include Flåm, the inner Lustrafjord and the Urnes Stave Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Transfer to the village of Loen (c.3 hours) at the end of the Innvikfjord, passing the borders of the Jostedalsbreen national park en route.

Free time in Loen. Opportunity to explore the small town of Stryn and the shores of the Nordfjord. Attractions include the Nordfjord folk museum, the mountain farms at Stryn and Byrkjelo and walking trails to the plateau of Mount Skåla. From May 2017, a new cable car attraction will transport guests from the village of Loen into the mountains (to a height of 1011m). At the summit of the cable car will be a restaurant and a platform from which to enjoy the spectacular panorama.

Transfer to Geiranger at the end of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We would recommend that your route travels to the village of Hellesylt from where it is possible to take a car ferry along the length of the Geirangerfjord – passing the Batchelor and Seven Sisters waterfalls - to the Hotel Union.On arrival at Geiranger visit the fjord centre to learn about the region and the fascinating attractions waiting to be explored.

Free time in Geiranger and the surrounding region. Your time in Geiranger can be as active or as relaxed as you desire. The Geirangerfjord offers a range of activities including canoeing, fjord cruises, hiking trails and guided Nordic walking excursions. Alternatively, the Hotel Union boasts one of the best spas in Norway and a number of panoramic lounges for those wishing to relax, unwind and enjoy the panoramic views.

Transfer to Ålesund. We recommend that you depart Geiranger by the Eagles Road so that you can enjoy the spectacular views off ered as the road winds it way up the mountainside.

  Free time in Ålesund, the jewel of the fjords. For a wonderful view of the town, climb to the top of Mount Aksla.

Transfer to Alesund airport for your return flight to the UK
