The hotel, founded in 1880 and very much a pink stoned palazzo, is uniquely situated right in Ortigia, the ancient centre of Syracuse, originally founded by the Greek settlers in the 8th century BC. All around are Greek Temples, Baroque churches, palaces and waterfront promenades.  The area is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The hotel is located next to the cathedral on one side and the Archbishop’s Palace on the other and overlooks the Piazza Minerva. The Antico is a classic hotel in every sense and very much the centre of the social buzz of Ortiga.  In the evenings this where the ‘locals’ stroll to see and to be seen.  Most of the major sites are within a 5 minute walk as are cafés, restaurants and shops.

The public spaces are large, paved with limestone and with many comfortable sofas.  There is an internal patio with small garden and a classic outdoor area with tables and chairs in the Piazza Minerva. Generally the hotel has an air of almost Arabian opulence and grandeur.  This is where it all happens.
