A UNESCO World Heritage Site and nature reserve since 1981, the seven islands that form the Aeolian archipelago are found approximately 40km north east of Sicily, with Salina at its centre.  Located on the north east coast of Salina, the Capofaro Malvasia & Resort is one of five estates owned by the Tasca d’Almerita family – producers of award winning wines.  Named partly after the Malvasia grape, native to Salina and believed to have been introduced to the island between 588-577B.C. by the Greeks, the estate has a 6 hectare vineyard.

A stay at Capofaro is ideal for those seeking wellness and relaxation as well as those with an interest in wine making.  Producing a sweet wine with an intense fragrance and aromatic flavour, here you can assist in the vineyard – pruning, harvesting or simply as an observer, from the end of August to the beginning of September.  Using local products, the resort kitchen prides itself on taking you through a journey of Sicilian aromas and flavours.  Here tradition is combined with contemporary, fish is fresh from the Aeolian sea and 70% of the vegetables used are from the resort vegetable garden.  In fact, the vegetation of Salina is amongst the richest of the Aeolian Islands.  Rooms at the property vary in style and size and are of typical Aeolian architecture using minimal décor.

Note: Capofaro Malvasia & Resort is open from 01 May to 30 September
