Just off the Plaza Major on a narrow road climbing up to the hilltop castle of Trujillo is the 16th century palace which belonged to Francisco de las Casa, a conquistador in Mexico and Honduras and a captain in the service of Hernan Cortes. Maria de Aguilar his wife was Cortes’ cousin. The hotel is a two minute walk to Plaza Mayor and is within throwing distance of the statue of Pizarro.

Granite features prominently in the construction of the palace. The conversion over three floors into a very good four star hotel has been handled sensitively with fine wooden floors and contemporary fixtures and fittings which blend into the old granite and stone.

The hotel is divided into the old palace through which one enters and a new traditional style building behind, where the old stables used to be and which houses the standard rooms. Between the two is a small garden and 12 square metre pool with a view over the main square.

There is a very good restaurant on the first floor which was originally the main room of the palace. There is an abundance of cafés, tapas bars and restaurants in and around the Plaza Major.  The location is excellent.
