The name says much. “Kameni Dvori” means ‘stone country villa’ and it is just that, a traditional style rustic residence, part of it dating back to the 15th century and still in use with the benefit of sympathetic modernisation in recent years using local stone, wood and wrought iron work typical of the region.
Owned by the Mudo family for generations, family members work to maintain the property to a high standard. They also work the family-owned land. Hand picking olives and grapes from their own groves and vineyards and making superb olive oil, local Malvasia wine and speciality brandies including honey and carob – these are just part of the job. Fruit trees and vegetable gardens provide the ingredients for homemade jams and chutney- type dips.
The villa is spacious and stylish with outside terraces at almost every turn. Made entirely stone with wooden beams it feels cool and there is also air conditioning.
Underneath the property there is a traditional taverna where breakfast is served and there is an a la carte menu where dishes use seasonal, local produce where possible. The Konavle Valley is famous for river trout, just one dish that might feature during your stay. One of the family specialities is skewers of pork with rosemary on bay leaf branches cooked on grill over wood.
Guests have their own kitchens but most prefer to have breakfast and at least a couple of meals prepared for them and there is enough outside seating for everyone even if Kameni Dvori is fully occupied.
There is a beautiful lawn area to the rear of the property and a raised viewpoint area perfect for wedding ceremonies or renewing of vows. The outdoor pool has sunbeds and parasols and has an expansive terrace area with outside seating, summer kitchen including fridge and barbeque grill.
There are wood burning fires for very low season, modern equipment including washing machine/dryers and all kitchens are fully equipped (there are three!)
The property is a member of the local Agrotourism movement which strives to preserve local traditions and rural practices and has strong environmental and conservation objectives.
A car (is essential and the nearest supermarket is about five minutes’ drive. The pretty Pasjaca beach near Popovici is around 15 minutes’ drive. If guests prefer not to have a car and seek a truly chilling experience, the family owners are happy to drive people to and from places for a charge and taxis can also be called.
