The family owned hacienda is a historic 3 star boutique hotel and working estate built directly onto the foundations of a 15th century Inca Palace and former Augustin monastery. The building was originally an Inca imperial palace which later served as a convent of the Augustinian order.
After 1912 it was the residence for the Ecuadorian President General Leonidas Plaza Gutierrez. The building features surviving imperial Inca stonework fused with Spanish colonial and Republican building styles around a central courtyard.
Surrounded by extensive gardens, green fields and an open landscape, there are direct views of Cotopaxi Volcano. The area is ideal for quiet, peaceful walks and horse riding amidst magnificent scenery.
The working farm has 11 rooms and suites, spread out over three buildings which are elegant, cosy and all individually decorated.
Delicious home cooked fare, featuring high Andean specialities, is served in the cosy dining area, with original Inca stonework and impressive views of Cotopaxi. After dinner, guests may relax in the drawing room with a book or maybe chat with the hacienda's welcoming host and owner, Mignon Plaza, granddaughter of one of Ecuador's former presidents.
Set in the Avenue of the Volcanoes and in the foothills of Cotopaxi volcano at 3,000 metres, 77 km from Quito, the hacienda is an excellent base from which to explore the National Park and surrounding villages.
