Santikos Mansion

Vizitsa is one of Pelion’s most attractive preserved mountain villages: its traditional mansion houses, narrow cobbled lanes and plane tree-shaded main square, home to two tavernas, epitomise the best of Pelion. At an elevation of over 500m, the village offers fabulous vistas over the Pagasitic Gulf. A network of restored walking paths on the forested mountainside links Vizitsa with villages near and far.

In the heart of the village, just a minute or two’s walk from the main square, this traditional Pelion mansion dates from the 19th century and has been sensitively restored. It offers a restful stay full of traditional charm and character to those wishing to experience a very different side of Greece.

The mansion dates from the 19th century and is typical of the area. It comprises eight rooms housed on three floors with the top floor having an archetypal overhang. Each room is individually decorated and richly furnished (some antique); mod cons include AC, WiFi, fridge, room safe and ensuite bathroom (bath and/or shower).

Standard rooms are twin bedded and on the ground and first floor, Deluxe rooms are double bedded on the second (top) floor and there is also a two-level Maisonette (open plan). There are no balconies due to the age of the building but there is a cosy lounge and breakfast area on the ground floor, and an outdoor jacuzzi which is free of charge for guests to use. If you want views just stroll to the nearby main square where you can enjoy a drink or meal whilst gazing over the mountainside to the Pagasitic Gulf below.

For more taverna choices you will find half a dozen in the larger village of Milies just a couple of kilometres down the road (a 5 minute drive or 45 minute pleasant walk – a circular walk takes c 3 hours). The beach and seaside tavernas of Kala Nera can be reached in 20 mins. by car or c 2 hrs 30 mins on foot (there is a circular route back to make it a full day walk c 5 hrs 30 mins.)

We consider car hire essential here. Vizitsa is a 75-90 minute drive from Volos Airport or 60 mins from Platanias, and a short stay here can also be incorporated into a fly drive. Please note that from the road where you park an 80m narrow cobbled path leads up to the mansion which we do not consider suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Deluxe Room

Double bedded on the second floor with AC, WiFi, fridge, room safe and ensuite bathroom (bath and/or shower). Some rooms can interconnect.

Maisonette

Open plan duplex room with a living room down with a sofa bed and wooden stairs up to a double bedded sleeping gallery above. AC, WiFi, fridge, room safe and ensuite bathroom (bath and/or shower).
