Centrally located in the heart of Cordoba, the Hospes Palacio del Bailio (Palace of the Bailiff) is surrounded by fruit trees and aromatic plants. After careful restoration to preserve its original features, the hotel opened in 2007 and prides itself on its exclusivity. Ideally placed within walking distance of many of the main sites of the historic centre (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), this is the choice for those seeking history, art, gastronomy, culture and relaxation.
Paying homage to the son of Alfonso de Aguilar, Pedro Núñez de Herrera, who died in Africa during 1579 along with King Sebastian, the palace is named after his profession – a bailiff of the Order of St John. Built on the remains of a Roman villa which dates from the 1st century AD, the Palacio del Bailio was owned by the Aguilar family until it was sold to the Bishopric of Cordoba during the 18th century, to house the San Jacinto hospital and Nuestra Señora de los Dolores church.
Within the property grounds there are four Andalusian patios. Inside the hotel you will find original art galleries and frescoes which date from the 17-19th centuries and the remains of a Roman villa located beneath the glass floor of ‘Arbequina’ restaurant. For relaxation and pampering the Palacio del Bailio also features the Bodyna Spa which houses the only Roman baths in the city and consists of two areas – a courtyard surrounded by Roman columns and treatment rooms and a lower floor where the Roman baths are located.
