The Shipyard Angra

This seafaring island has recently added a new property with a nautical theme to its portfolio - the aptly named The Shipyard Angra. It is set close to the colourful marina of Angra do Heroismo, in what used to be the industrial-zone where many new properties and restaurants are gradually emerging.

This new aparthotel offers 29 spacious and modern studios and one and two bed apartments, some with seaview, a short walk from the heart of this UNESCO World heritage listed centre. The grey interiors are a nod to the island’s industrial past and contrast against the warm tones of the Japanese cedar wood used throughout the property.

Terceira itself is an island not to be missed. This volcanic island is, in fact, one of the only places in the world where you can actually walk into a volcano and stand in a magma chamber (now extinct), at Algar Carvao. There are many activities on offer from whale watching and hiking to swimming in natural rock pools. The gastronomic experiences are a treat, where the majority of the food is grown on the island - so it is fresh and flavoursome. Try the delicious local cheeses and cakes - the Dona Amelia bite-size cake is unique to the island, the slow cooked Alcatra pot roast is a staple food and don’t forget their own production of wines.
