Perched on Morne Acouma (“morne” means a hill), 392 feet above the Caribbean Sea, on the south-west coast of Dominica, with panoramic views both to the surrounding forest and to the ocean, privately-owned Jungle Bay is one of the first of its kind - an ‘Edible Resort’.
Within its 19 acres, over 100 varieties of tropical fruit flourish, right outside the door to your comfortable - but rustic in appearance – accommodation; the aim is to fit in with, rather than detract from, the glorious scenery. Rousseau, the island’s capital, is just a 20-minute drive away, and the coastal village of Soufriere is just a 5-minute drive – but you may well find everything you need for your holiday break within the 19 acres of countryside with sea views that is your home here.

This is very much an oasis for nature lovers, plus those who love to be active, alongside those who seek tranquillity, relaxation, yoga and wellbeing – a place to wind down. In the hotel’s own words: “The island of Dominica differentiates itself in many ways from other Caribbean islands; instead of mass tourism, noisy bars and nightclubs, visitors here will find tranquillity, nature, and very friendly people. Dominica is a dream destination for eco-lovers, adventurers, hikers, divers, snorkellers and bird watchers.”
Dominica is also the year-round whale watching capital of the Caribbean, and perfect for lovers of birdlife and plant life, plus a great deal more.
For snorkellers, Scott’s Head and popular Champagne Beach (where tiny warm bubbles, resembling Champagne bubbles, emerge from geothermal vents under the sea), are both just a 10-minute drive.
Accommodation here is a mixture of Villa Rooms – basically, two semi-detached rooms per unit - and individual villa suites. Furnishings are comfortable/relaxing; polished wood is predominant, giving the accommodation a rustic feel. All rooms have garden or partial sea views and are hidden amidst the jungle vegetation which climbs up the hill, or morne in local parlance. The individual rooms/villas, which radiate outwards from the hub of the property (ie the main reception, restaurant/bar and main swimming pool) - are located throughout the 19-acre estate, which necessitates a fair amount of walking, up and down rustic pathways. Electric buggies with drivers are, however, at hand to help whenever necessary.
The resort offers a range of options to suit many individual interests. Our prices are based on bed and breakfast, but half-board and full-board options are also available. For those who require endless activities, then the all-encompassing Adventure and Wellness Package is a must. There are also Wedding, Honeymoon and Dive packages. The Bamboo Spa, open daily from 10.00 to 20.00, offers relaxing and rejuvenating treatments, payable locally, including eight different massage options, detoxes and nail care, plus a range of Yoga options (daily half-hour spa treatments are included in the Adventure Wellness Package).
The hotel's restaurant serves fresh and healthy island food. Dishes are mainly vegetarian and vegan, but there are also fish, chicken and meat options. Many of the fresh fruits and vegetables come from the estate's own gardens.
This is an enormously friendly place, which we thoroughly recommend. Jungle Bay can, we are confident, satisfy every taste and more.
