Day 2 - Explore Tromso
The university city of Tromsø is protected from the sea by an extensive archipelago of islands and is backed by the lofty peaks of the Lyngen Alps. Today, collect your hire car and explore the islands of Kvaløya and Ringvassøya. If time permits, we would recommend driving south to Senja (2 ½ hours drive each way), Norway’s second largest island. The landscape here is defined by deep fjords, precipitous mountainsides and colourful fishing hamlets. This contrasting scenery is guaranteed to take away your breath away.

Day 3 - Day of Exploring
Head inland from Tromsø, by car, to the natural beauty of the Lyngen Alps and the peaceful forests of Reisadalen. Gentle walks and strenuous hikes are on offer but, no matter which option you choose a wonderful panorama will be your reward.

Opportunity to visit one of the city’s museums. We would particularly recommend a visit to the Polar Museum which details the expeditions of Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen. As the largest city above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø has a lovely atmosphere and a good selection of cosy cafes, pubs, bistros and restaurants, in which to while away a few hours. Return your hire vehicle. In the evening (18:30) depart Tromsø on board the Hurtigruten, sailing north towards the North Cape and Kirkenes.
