Dating back to the Middle Ages, Trondheim was the first capital of Norway and the final resting place of St Olav the Holy in 1030AD. Today, it is the country’s third largest city with much to offer all year round - whether visiting the spectacular Nidaros Cathedral and museums, swimming in the Trondheimfjord, indulging in some retail therapy or simply relaxing in a café. One of Europe’s best preserved wooden towns, Røros and its circumference – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is a 2½ hour train journey from Trondheim making it an ideal two centre combination. Linked to the copper mines, established in the 17th century, the town with its quaint wooden houses, shops, restaurants and museums dedicated to the history of mining, is a hidden treasure amongst the mountains of southern Trondelag.
