7 Night twin-centre Arctic adventure to Tromso and Kilpisjarvi
Overview
Introduction
Our seven-night Arctic adventure itinerary combines Tromso in Norway and Kilpisjarvi in Finland, including a visit to the border triangle, where you can enter Sweden, Finland, and Norway in just ten seconds.
Tromso is considered one of the best places in the world to experience the magic of an Arctic winter. Between November and January, the city is cloaked in polar night, meaning the sun never rises above the horizon. This makes for perfect viewing of the dazzling Northern Lights, which frequently dance across the night sky in shades of green, pink, and purple. Tromso also offers a variety of wintertime activities like dog sledding, reindeer sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling - we have included a wildlife fjord cruise by electric catamaran and further experiences can be incorporated at a supplement.
Tromso has a stunning setting, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and the Arctic Ocean. You'll witness the diversity of the landscape as you travel inland to Kilpisjarvi in Finland, a district steeped in a rich history of myths and legends. At the heart of the village lies the magnificent Saana Fell, the most iconic mountain peak in Lapland. The beautiful Lake Kilpisjarvi, with its sweeping views of the Arctic tundra and Sweden, is also located nearby. The ground is usually blanketed in snow from September or October to early June, with patches of snow on surrounding fells all year round.
Kilpisjarvi is the perfect destination for stargazing, as the Milky Way is often visible to the naked eye. Due to the lack of light pollution, the Northern Lights are incredibly vibrant here. The most well-known attractions in Kilpisjarvi are the Saana Fell and the "three-country border point" monument, at the intersection of Finland, Sweden, and Norway. Here, Finland's highest fells and freely roaming reindeer herds await you. Kilpisjarvi will enchant you with its beauty and captivate you with its rich cultural heritage.

Day 1 - 2 - Tromso, Norway
On arrival at Tromso Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. Thon Hotel Tromso is a modern hotel with 151 well-appointed rooms and centrally located in Tromso.
Tromso may be a vibrant and bustling city but its position 350km above the Arctic Circle makes this a city with a big difference. Not only are you surrounded by stunning nature in the form of steep mountains and dramatic fjords but come nightfall, you’re also in the heart of the Aurora Zone. Tromso’s city centre most certainly has all the attractions, vibrant cafes and restaurants to keep you entertained. To enhance your winter adventure we have included a cruise through the nearby fjords on an electric catamaran to marvel at the stunning landscape and to spot an array of Arctic wildlife.

Day 3 - 6 - Kilpisjarvi, Finland
This morning you will take a bus transfer with 'Arctic Route' from Tromsø to Kilpisjärvi.
Discover a tranquil Arctic retreat that will captivate your heart and soul. Experience the serenity of the fells and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life at the enchanting Tundrea Resort. Exciting excursions to look forward to during your stay here includes a thrilling snowmobile safari to the three-country point, a visit to a northern-lights-camp, and a trip to a reindeer farm.

Day 7 - Return to Tromso
Day at leisure and lunch at Tundrea.
At 18:00 the Arctic Route bus will depart Kilpisjarvi and journey back to Tromso, a three hour drive (arriving Tromso c.20:00 Norwegian time).

Close to where the borders of Sweden, Norway and Finland converge, amidst the expansive fells and wild landscapes of the north, you'll find Tundrea wilderness lodge. North from here the Arctic tundra unfolds. This is a land of outstanding natural beauty where - in the winter - frozen lakes and snow-covered trees form the most idyllic of backdrops. Contrasting colours and scenes at every turn. In the summer, the rays of the midnight sun illuminate the land day and night, affording visitors endless hours of outdoor pursuits: fishing, hiking, cycling and more.

Tundrea wilderness lodge offers a wide choice of accommodation for all travellers and budgets. We have chosen to promote the Tsahkal Suites and Igloo Suites, although all room categories can be booked by Sunvil and we can assist if greater independence (self catering facilities) or space are desired. Each cabin or apartment is inspired by the local surroundings and are equipped with a traditional sauna.
Other facilities on site include the Restaurant Tundrea where, after a day of adventure, you can savour the local flavours of Lapland. Admittedly though, to be at Tundrea is to be outside either enjoying the exhilarating winter activities or discovering the ever-changing colours and nature of Europe's northernmost regions in summer.
With nature as your neighbour you're guaranteed a relaxing stay. And, with minimal light pollution those with hopes of seeing the majestic displays of the Aurora Borealis are in good stead.
