Four hours from Puerto Maldonado, Refugio Amazonas is located in a 200 hectare private reserve bordering the Tambopata National Reserve. It is ideal for families looking for a rainforest adventure and features a rainforest trail designed especially for children.

The lodge was built using traditional materials such as wood, palm fronds and adobe bricks. It consists of a communal dining area with a loft on the second floor which offers views of the surrounding rainforest canopy. This is connected to the accommodation by a series of raised boardwalks. In addition there is a wellness centre for massages and aromatherapy.

The 32 bedrooms including classic and superior rooms and these are separated in to four accommodation wings. They all feature private bathrooms with hot water and windowless verandahs which allow guests to feel connected with the rainforest surrounding the lodge. Each bed is equipped with its own mosquito net and kerosene lamps and candles are provided for lighting. Superior rooms have doors (instead of drapes), electricity in the evenings and complimentary WI-FI.

Note: The bedrooms are separated from one another by light cane fencing and are private but not soundproof.

Rainforest Expeditions works in partnership with a number of local families and together they share in the benefits of eco-tourism.
