Sun, sea, savings! Book your summer escape today (including £100 child reductions).

It was very encouraging to read the Lonely Planet article on ‘Why now is a good time to go to Greece’. Of course at Sunvil we’ve been telling everyone to do so all year as there was never a problem for tourists and we were proved right.

It has been quite exhausting to get the message across, as we were constantly having to battle the sensationalist negative messages being put out by the media. At least Greece is now out of the daily headlines. We have yet another election to look forward to but I sense people just want to get on and adjust to the new wave of legislation.

Prices:

We are currently negotiating prices for 2016. Do not believe stories of enormous price hikes. This just will not happen. Greek accommodation providers – and we work and have worked for decades with individual Greek owners and not international hotels – are very good at coming to terms with each wave of new legislation and between us we always arrive at a good price. Our clients will hardly notice a difference and I believe some prices will actually be cheaper! Don’t ask us how we do it we just do, we are tour operators!

The weather:

But there are many other reasons to choose to travel to Greece this year. The weather has been awful over here and wonderful over there and the difference looks set to continue. Many of our loyal clients are about to embark on their second trip this year. We have availability, mostly in the last two weeks of September and some very good offers for villas, hotels and apartments.

The beaches:

You will find the beaches (Greece has 395 of them with Blue Flags, the highest number in the world) quieter and the tavernas more relaxed. The value is, of course, excellent

The food:

Don’t forget the food and wine. Greek cuisine has come on in leaps and bounds since the days of choosing between a tepid moussaka or souvlaki. Fresh and tasty, very healthy (all that olive oil) and using mainly local ingredients have pushed Greek cuisine into many people’s top ten in the world (including CNN and Lonely Planet). The same goes for Greek wines which are now receiving international recognition.

The history:

Speaking of Nemea and Nemean wines, next year, and for the second time, I’ll be running barefoot and in a toga in the 90 metres at the Nemean games, organised by The Society For The Revival Of The Nemean Games. Entry is free.

There is nowhere quite like Greece and the way we do it means maximum support for the ‘man on the island’ so to speak. It’s not far, just a three hour flight to a different world. We offer the mainland and 40 islands to choose from. Don’t forget that Greece is the birthplace of western civilisation and there are reminders everywhere.
