Where have 50 years gone and how on earth have we made it this far? When you begin you have no real conception of still being there after 50 years. I mean 50 years is a long time.

How have we done it? We have done it because we have always been passionate about what we do; we respect and we tolerate because an organisation only exists when it works as a team.

I have been fortunate to have had a like minded and supportive partner in John who sadly passed away last year. A little eccentric perhaps but which one of us isn’t! Now replaced by his son Dudley.

To the many members of staff who have passed through Sunvil over 50 years my heartfelt thanks and I hope that your time with us has left happy memories and the experience has helped your onward paths.

I can’t help feeling a little tearful, mindful of the difficult times all of us in travel are currently experiencing. I have no doubt we will make it as the industry is composed of fighters.

My thanks to clients who have always stuck by us, to those in the industry, both in the UK and abroad who have contributed to our longevity. We have all worked together to create something of which we can justifiably be proud.

Noel Josephides

Noel is Sunvil’s Chairman. Born in Cyprus in 1948, he joined John der Parthog at Sunvil in 1973. Before that and following university, he spent 3 years as a trainee buyer at C&A Modes and then worked for a large Cypriot builder and property developer for whom he set up a London Office buying electrical components for the Middle East and importing lemons from orchards in Cyprus. He still researches new destinations for Sunvil and is heavily involved in matters relating to the travel industry. He is a previous chairman of ABTA, a long standing director and previous chairman of The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) and former chairman of The Travel Foundation - the travel industry’s sustainability charity.
