Have you felt your eyes glancing towards the sky in recent weeks, searching out airline contrails and wondering where they are going and dreaming of a time when we can travel again? Whilst, for now, travel - domestic and overseas - remains on hold, the talk of air-bridges and the reopening of borders is providing hope that we will soon feel the tingle of excitement as we prepare for a journey, possibly as early as next month (July).
Plans are afoot in all our overseas destinations to safeguard the wellbeing of visitors, with new regulations and protocols being introduced almost daily. At Sunvil, we continue to monitor the guidance from EASA and ICAO for public health guidance on flights and are in continuous dialogue with our partners on the ground to ensure our holidays will continue to flow seamlessly, with our much-praised attention to detail and customer service, and will reward travellers with an authentic and genuine insight to the real country. Full details of our destination protocols will be released in the coming weeks, but changes will include fewer guests per transfer vehicle; later check-ins to allow for enhanced cleaning; social distancing in public areas and the introduction of hand sanitiser in public areas.

We asked our destination specialists the question: “where is the first place you will travel once the lockdown has ended?’. Here are their responses.

“After spending time with my new grandchildren, I will return to the Messinia district of the Peloponnese, a destination I call my second home and which I have been exploring for over 40 years. I have many friends here, the ancient olive groves attract birdlife and provide natural shade from the sun, the sunrises are spectacular and the light has a majestic, artistic quality. My first stop will be the village of Achladochori and my favourite taverna in the region.”
“For me, a return to Corfu and Paxos would be on the cards. I have been connected with these islands since I was 19 and I am drawn back to them on numerous occasions every year. I love the Ionian islands for a number of reasons: the day-to-day randomness that is chaotic, but no one ever gets stressed (well, nothing a drink and a good meal wouldn’t sort), which is such a contrast from the UK.”
“I would love to return to Kefalonia and Ithaca, two islands I visited last year after a 10 year break. There have been times during lockdown that I have questioned whether I would be able to travel again, so I would like to visit these islands and remind myself how I felt when I returned after so many years. It was like seeing a friend after so many years apart, very few things had changed however there were new places to explore but the familiarity and special bond still remained. I vowed never to leave it so long again.”
“I lived in Tolon for over 30 years and represented Sunvil in the resort over this time. I would like to return to the north Peloponnese to find a sense of normality and familiarity. I would walk in the hills, take a boat to the islets in the bay with a picnic, and while-away the hours watching the colours changing on the horizon.”
“I would take an early flight to Lisbon, hire a bike and cycle along the Tejo river and coast (stopping at Torre de Belem, Oeiras oceanic pool for a quick dip to cool off and my friends restaurant in Estoril and then Cascais to have a pastel de nata and sumol in my favourite cafe Bijou in the Largo Luis de Camoes square in Cascais (great people watching). I would then continue and battle the wind along the coastal path to the sand dunes at Guincho for a beer watching the sunset in a local bar. It is roughly 32 km from Cais do Sodre to Cascais and a further 5km to Guincho. Perfect day!”
"After spending far too much time indoors, I’ll be heading off in search of wide open spaces and in particular the Surnedal valley between Alesund and Trondheim - my parental home.
