Holidays In Jarandilla de la Vera

With a very rich heritage there is much to see.  Charles I stayed in the 15th century Palace of Jarandilla which is now an imposing Parador.  There are several medieval bridges of Roman design and the house of Don Luis de Quijada, tutor of Don Juan of Austria is particularly interesting.

Churches and convents abound from the 12th century onwards.  There are several gorges in the area of La Vera and the Jaranda Gorge (Garganta del Jaranta) is very well known.  Jarandilla can easily be visited in a day.  It is a compact and very pretty town.

The town is known for The Festivity of the Brooms which takes place on the night of the 7th December in honour of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.  The wholetown follows ther horseman holding the Virgin’s Standard in procession, holding lighted brooms as if these are torches.
