Northern Light Holidays

Time is of little consequence when the Northern Lights dance their way across the night sky. The displays can last minutes or hours. Either way, you will be transfixed to the heavens above watching the patterns change and the strength of the Aurora ebb and flow.

As a natural phenomenon a sighting of the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed. At Sunvil, it is our desire for you to have an enjoyable winter break regardless and we use our expertise and first-hand knowledge to recommend the perfect holiday for you. Our specialist reservations team have all visited Northern Norway and Swedish Lapland and can answer any questions you may have.

Short city breaks to Tromso, escapes to relaxing wilderness lodges, stays at the ICEHOTEL and Treehotel romantic retreats, active Aurora holidays and family-tailored itineraries are all available.

Please telephone 020 8758 4722 to discuss your requirements or email discovery@sunvil.co.uk.

Our favourite Aurora holidays:

Norway:
Tromso:
The city of Tromso is synonymous with the Northern Lights and is widely regarded as one of the best places in the world to observe the phenomenon. In recent years sightings of the Aurora Borealis, in the region of Troms (of which Tromso is part) and in neighbouring Finnmark, have been recorded every other clear night.

Suggested itineraries:

Northern Norway:
Surrounding Tromso is an archipelago of islands, home to small coastal hamlets, and the magnificent Lyngen Alps. The pace of life here is relaxed and the nature takes centre stage. Sit back and enjoy the view.

Suggested itineraries:

Swedish Lapland
Abisko:

In 2015, Lonely Planet named Abisko National Park in Swedish Lapland as the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights. The park enjoys a microclimate and is renowned for its virtually clear skies and low levels of light pollution – two requisites for sightings of the Aurora Borealis.

Suggested itineraries:

Wilderness retreats:
Swedish Lapland is widely considered one of the last remaining wilderness areas on earth. For mile upon mile the snow-covered landscape will stretch before your eyes and you do not need to travel far – if anywhere – to be immersed in the nature. Artificial light pollution is minimal and most of the region is located directly under the Aurora corridor.

Our chosen properties here are locally-owned and managed and offer personalised service and high-quality winter activities.

For Aurora enthusiasts, we would particularly recommend the following holiday.
