The Tamarind Tree

Overwhelmingly welcoming, The Tamarind Tree, resplendent in its Caribbean colours is ideally located at the centre of Dominica’s west coast. Set in lush gardens, the hotel is perched at the top of a 100-foot cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the Bay of Salisbury and Morne Diablotin. The views are panoramic and spectacular.

The hotel is about a 30-minute drive (21 km) from Roseau, the island capital, and 1 hour and 15 minutes’ drive (52 km) from the airport. The quiet, dark-sand Salisbury beach is a 10-minute walk down and is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing. The Salisbury River flows directly into the beach, adding to the area’s natural beauty. Salisbury village is a 20-minute walk

This is a place to relax and unwind and enjoy the stunning views and sunsets over the Caribbean Sea. The hotel proudly boasts that there are no TVs and a sign at the entrance emphatically states ‘No Honking, Park Properly, Switch Off Engine and Come To The Office!’

Spotlessly clean, efficient and friendly, this is an ideal base from which to visit both the north and south of Dominica and we strongly recommend a car. The hotel has a highly regarded restaurant which is open for breakfast year-round and for lunch and dinner from December to April. Outside this period guests can order small meals or snacks to take to their rooms. There are also several restaurants within 2 to 7 km distance.

Note: The hotel is closed from the 1st September to the 14th October very year.

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES

• Rainwater is used to flush the toilets and irrigate the garden
• Water is heated by solar energy
• Towels are changed on request only
• Bedsheets are changed every third day
• LED lights are used everywhere
• Kitchen waste is composted
• Food scraps go in the dog bin!
• As many goods as possible purchased locally
• The pool is purified with a chlorine-saline-Autopilot, no chemicals are added
• The hotel operates a 15KW SMA photovoltaic power plant. Depending on the season 60% to 90% of all used electricity is solar energy.
• All employees are from neighbouring villages and the hotel provides all training

Standard Room

Three standard rooms are on the ground floor and can accommodate up to three persons in two single or one double bed plus an extra bed. Six standard rooms (with either one extra wide queen bed or 2 single beds) are on the first floor and are for two persons plus a child under 16 or infant. The rooms measure 20 sqm, are all with a terrace, Bay view and have a bathroom with a solar heated shower. They are equipped with WiFi, air conditioning, fan, fridge, microwave and electric kettle. Hairdryers are on request. Two sets of standard rooms can interconnect to form two family rooms which can each accommodate 2 adults and four children under 16 years of age.

Superior Room

Superior rooms measure 20sqm, and are on the 2nd floor (top floor) with two twin beds or one king size double bed. They have a terrace with panoramic views. They can accommodate two adults or two adults with a child under 16 or an infant. Facilities are as per the standard rooms. Two sets of superior rooms can interconnect to form two family rooms which can each accommodate 2 adults and four children under 16.

Bungalow

The three, two storey bungalows each have a large, open plan, fully equipped kitchen on the first floor with a dining/living area with glass doors which open onto a full-sized deck overlooking the Caribbean Sea. They can accommodate up to six persons. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms with showers. One bedroom has a king size double bed and the other two twin beds. Extra beds are available. The bungalows have a small, private garden terrace with stunning views. All bungalow guests also enjoy access to the pool and all the facilities of the hotel. The bungalows are equipped with fans (no air conditioning).
