Get in touchGoing south from Lefkas Town at the island's northern tip, Ligia and Nikiana are the first two small seaside resort areas you come to on the sheltered east coast.
Either would be an excellent choice for those who wish to relax away from the crowds yet make the most of what Lefkas has to offer.
Ligia, just a few kilometres from town (easily reached by the good local bus service), is a quiet less commercial area, its harbourside tavernas popular with locals as the best places to come to for a fresh fish meal. Other tavernas, several cafés and bakeries, and a mini-market can be found on the main road. Beaches are largely narrow strips of white-pebble, with one larger stretch of shingle to the south of the harbour, shade provided by tall eucalyptus trees. In the height of the summer sunbeds are available for hire on the beaches.
The laid back village of Nikiana, a few kilometres further to the south, has a variety of restaurants and small shops, and a very relaxed friendly Greek atmosphere. Again, the traditional harbour tavernas are known for their freshly-caught fish. A pretty curve of sand/shingle beach stands at the entrance to the village, and there are various stretches of pebble and shingle beach south of the harbour. The Breath of Zorba taverna is a good choice for those who like a swim before lunch as its tables are set in an olive grove behind its own little beach.
Both Ligia and Nikiana are close to the mainland, and there are lovely views across the narrow straits to the mountains. As everywhere on Lefkas the surroundings are green and wooded, the sea clean and very sheltered.
This is a particularly good area from which to get out and about – the excellent local bus service will quickly take you north to explore attractive Lefkas Town or south to the larger resort of Nidri, and nearly all excursions pick up from here.
