Hotel Miramare

The obvious attraction of this hotel is the fabulous location on the seafront with direct sea views.

The name in Italian “miramare” means “sea view”. It is at one end of the promenade, 160 feet from the small Sunset beach and 700 feet from the long Jadran beach. The centre of Njivice seafront is a few minutes stroll.

Officially, this is a four-star hotel which we rate as three star plus since some balconies are a little on the compact side.

The hotel is owned and run by the Bogovic family and there are many repeat visitors for whom the family heritage and wonderful waterfront location are key factors in their choice of hotel. Many of the friendly staff are long-serving.

The family is keen to welcome guests from the UK and prices are very competitive for summer stays in May, June, September and October using nearby Rijeka airport. The hotel is open all year round for stays of all durations during the winter using Zagreb airport – perhaps to combine with a short stay in the capital. In winter, most guests come for relaxation and to enjoy the island’s walking paths.

A rather traditional design prevails throughout the hotel and rooms – there are lots of old photographs depicting the fishing tradition of Njivice. Forget designer minimalism here.

The a la carte restaurant has built its reputation on recipes of old local island women together with the use of home-made olive oils and fresh produce. Locals as well as hotel guests are regulars at the restaurant.

In addition to the a la carte menu, half board is also bookable by hotel guests and this is usually a mix of buffet and served dishes depending on season and hotel occupancy.

Breakfast is buffet style with individual hot egg dishes available by ordering.

There is a bar and lounge although most guests choose to have drinks on the outside terrace.
