Get in touchIn July 2007 Machu Picchu was named one of the ‘Seven New Wonders of the World’. Stunningly situated high in the cloud forest, the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is one of the world's archeolgical jewels. Unknown until 1911, there are many theories surrounding the position and role of Machu Picchu and its subsequent demise.
It was thought it may have been a strategically positioned military outpost but it now seems more likely that it was an important ceremonial site due to the high quality of the stonework. There are many fascinating elements to the complex, including the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb and the Temple of the Three Windows. A private guided tour of the ruins is always included in our visits to Machu Picchu, unless a group tour is specified.
Inca Trail
The number of people allowed on the Inca Trail at any time is strictly limited. Pre-booking is essential. The Classic Inca Trail takes 4 days and 3 nights camping. A guide, porters, camping equipment (except sleeping bag, which can be rented) and all meals are provided when booked through us. Preparation is essential as the altitude and weather conditions can make the trek extremely tiring. The Express Inca trail starts at Km104 and is a one day strenuous walk. Again preparation is essential. On completion of either the Classic or the Express Inca Trails we include a guided tour of the ruins. The trail normally closes for 4 weeks in either January or February. Other walks and treks are available in the area of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
Trains for the scenic ride to Machu Picchu depart from Cusco or Ollanta.
Trains for the scenic ride to Machu Picchu depart from Cusco or Ollanta. We book our clients on the Vistadome Train which is comfortable and has good windows unless booking the afternoon train from Ollanta, which is a Ferrostal train. The Orient Express luxury train, Hiram Bingham, runs every day except Sunday and can be booked at a supplement.
All trains arrive at Aguas Calientes. Visitors are then taken up the mountain side by minibus from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of Machu Picchu.
