Holidays to The Jerte Valley

The Jerte valley is picturesque and is the place to be if you seek rural tourism and outdoor activities such as hiking, walking, cycling, canoeing and horse riding. In the town itself you will find a tourist information office as well as a small selection of restaurants and bars. The nearest city, Plasencia, is just 24 miles away. 

The valley is also renowned for its cherry blossom which blooms during spring. Across the Jerte valley, on the slopes and terraces, the landscape is transformed into a blanket of white and with over two million trees in bloom makes a truly beautiful sight. Dependent on weather conditions, this unique scene normally occurs in the last week of March, lasting between 12-14 days. During this time, to celebrate the blossoming of the trees, the Jerte Valley Cherry Blossom festival, declared of National Tourist Interest, takes place. The produce, the Picota cherry, is native to the area and has been cultivated here since the 17th century. Found in stores during July and August it is said that these are the best cherries in Spain, slightly smaller in size with no tail, yet sweeter, crunchier and a darker red than others. From May to June it is possible to join local farmers in the harvesting of the cherries which is carried out by hand; alternatively visitors to the area can visit the Cherry Museum which is located 10 minutes from the Hospederia Valle de Jerte.
