This 14-night itinerary enables you to explore and walk this beautiful region based at four of the mountain villages. The itinerary is very flexible in that nights at each location can be increased or decreased and of course the order can also be changed to suit flight availability and departure airport.
There was a time when all Cypriots migrated away from the scorching summer heat to the cool of the heavily forested mountains for their summer holidays. The trend towards holidaying on the coast only dates from the 1960s. Now Cyprus is known for its busy seaside resorts of Ayia Napa, Protaras, Limassol, and Paphos. The mountains have been forgotten but that is where the true beauty and charm of the island lies and, over the years, we at Sunvil have steadfastly promoted the Troodos mountains. You will not be disappointed in following our suggested itinerary because you will be visiting the old Cyprus, the traditional lands and villages.

Day 2 - 4 - Kato and Pano Lefkara
Kato (Lower) and Pano (higher) Lefkara, form a small, tranquil village perched on a ridge in the southern foothills of the Troodos mountains. Pano Lefkara, where you will be staying, is, according to many, the most beautiful village in Cyprus. It is a historic 12th century village of cobbled, narrow streets, traditional buildings (16th to 19th century) and panoramic mountain views. It is famous for its unique ‘Lefkaritika’ lace and handmade silver filigree. In the 16th century, Lefkara was the largest town in Cyprus.
The village is only a ten-minute drive from the main Nicosia-Limassol road and only a little further to the beaches of the southern coast and many noteworthy historical sites, including Stavrovouni monastery, the neolithic settlement of Chirokitia and Kalavassos, the Lusignan Chapelle Royale and the ancient town of Amathus. There are also many wineries in the area that can be visited. Both villages have magnificent medieval churches and there are many chapels in the surrounding villages and area. There are nature trails centred on Lefkara and the villages of Kato Drys and Vavatsinia are well worth walking or driving to.

Day 5 - Driving to Platres
The drive between Lefkara and Platres takes you down to the main coastal road to the village of Ypsonas and then up into the mountains to Platres. Make sure that you stop at the beautiful village of Omodos on the way up from the coast to Platres.
You can also reach Platres by traversing the mountains on small mountain roads. This would take considerably longer. Whichever route is taken, there is much to see on the way so take your time and make a day of it. The Pendeli Hotel was one of the original mountain hotels and reopened in July 2025 as a 4 sar resort hotel. It is comfortable and well located

Day 9 - Driving to Troodos
It is only a short drive from Platres to Troodos, about 15 minutes (10 km ). Here you feel that you have reached the roof of the island, although it’s still another 5 km from the Troodos Hotel to the top of Mount Olympus.
The long established and homely, family run, 2 star Troodos Hotel is very well located on the main square from which all mountain activities begin.

Day 10 & 11 - Troodos Mountains
At an altitude of 1725 metres above sea level, the village is only 227 metres lower than Mount Olympus, the highest point on the island. Troodos is the highest of the many resorts in the Troodos mountain range which occupies the centre of the island.
The village is the centre for all alpine activities, from hiking to skiing in the winter. Before the seaside became fashionable, the mountains were the preferred holiday destination of all Cypriots and Troodos was no exception. The village is surrounded by extensive pine forests and within easy reach are Byzantine monasteries and churches and the 30 or so villages that cling to the mountain sides of this spectacular range. Troodos Village is the perfect base for exploring, hiking, cycling or for just relaxing in the clean, pine scented mountain air.

Day 13 & 14 - Setrachos Valley
Located in the lush, green Setrachos Valley in the Troodos mountains, this village, with a population of 247, has been a traditional, Cypriot mountain resort for many generations.
The location is picturesque and the village, with its cobbled streets, tiled rooftops, picturesque balconies and shaded courtyards is untouched by modern developments. This is an ideal spot for those interested in exploring local nature trails. The village has many churches and chapels but is best known for a most famous Byzantine monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site, the monastery of St John Lampadistis.
