A three night adventure break at Sorrisniva
Overview
Introduction
This three night itinerary combines a stay at Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge and the famous Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. During your time spent at both accommodations you will enjoy fabulous culinary experiences, including three-course gourmet dinners and traditional coffee and Sidda cake.
Each day we have handpicked some thrilling experiences for your Arctic adventure. In a short amount of time you will meet reindeers and a Sami herder, search for the Northern Lights, drive through the Arctic wilderness on a snowmobile, and sleep on a bed made solely out of ice and snow. Between the activities you will have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings at Sorrisniva. All guests have free access to both snowshoes and kick-sleds which gives you the opportunity to explore the prepared snow tracks in the surrounding area.

Day 1 - Day of arrival
On arrival at Alta airport, you will self-transfer to your accommodation at Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge. This superb property is situated in a destination with immense appeal year-round and one which Mother Nature has blessed with all her splendour.
Once you have settled into your River Room, unwind over a delicious three-course culinary dinner cooked in the Maku fine dining restaurant.

Day 2 - Reindeer experience and hunting the Northern Lights
After breakfast you’ll visit the Siida museum, located in the town of Inari, in the Sami Homeland. It is here that you’ll learn all about the indigenous Sami people, their culture, and the wonderous arctic nature. For millennia, reindeer herding has very much been a part of the Sami culture. Historically reindeers have been used for transport, milk and meat production. Meet the reindeer and feed them together with the reindeer herder before enjoying a coffee and Sidda cake in a traditional Lavvu.
Appreciate a homemade three-course dinner before setting out on an exhilarating adventure hunting the Northern Lights. Join your guide and Northern Lights enthusiast on this unique once in a lifetime experience. If you are lucky enough (weather permitting) to see Lady Aurora dancing in the sky, your guide will help set your camera up, ensuring that you capture the best photographic results. View your photographs over a campfire and listen to your guide tell many stories about the magic and myths of the Northern Lights.

Day 3 - Snowmobile experience
After a delicious buffet breakfast, get changed into your warm clothes because you’ll soon be heading out into the wilderness on your very own snowmobile. Traverse through the intensely beautiful landscape of frozen lakes and snow-bound forests during this thrilling 2.5-hour experience. You’ll be partnered up, one driver and one passenger per snowmobile with the chance to swap over during the tour. A two-course lunch is also provided.
For your final night, transfer to the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, a unique 2000sqm hotel on the banks of the Alta River made entirely of ice and snow. After your evening meal snuggle down in your thermal sleeping bag, on your bed of ice and snow, insulated with reindeer skins, and enjoy the silence and serenity around you. The perfect end to your winter adventure.

Day 4 - Day of departure
Perhaps, enjoy a morning sauna before your final breakfast and return flight home from Alta airport.

The Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel has stood on this ground since 2000. But, in 2021, work commenced on a project that has the power to transform future tourism in the region forever. The aim of the project was to build an exclusive, luxurious lodge that pays homage to the quality of its wondrous surroundings, and is a destination in its own right, offering fine dining, personal service and a host of experiences both in-house and through the promotion of local entrepreneurs. The Wisloff family and their team succeeded.
The lodge consists of 17 river rooms, 5 river suites, 1 premium suite and 1 king suite. Each room has floor to ceiling windows, private balcony and panoramic views over the river valley. Natural light floods the rooms and the design, using dark wood panels and natural materials, is such that you feel at one with nature. On the ground floor is a comfortable lounge opening onto a riverside terrace, bar and two restaurants.
Whilst one could be forgiven for solely relaxing and relishing in the delights of Finnmark, there are many activities on offer here: river boat excursions to the Alta Canyon, e-bikes, hiking, king crab safaris, husky dog experiences, snowmobile tours, reindeer encounter and ice sculpting.

Alta is in the northernmost region of northern Norway, hundreds of kilometres into the Arctic Circle and 1,727km north of Oslo. So, it’s not surprising to find an igloo hotel here and in fact it is the northernmost ice hotel in the world.

Each year as the snow begins to settle, Sorrisniva builds a new and unique 2000sqm hotel on the banks of the Alta river made entirely of ice and snow. Inside are 28 bedrooms, 5 suites, an ice chapel and an ice bar. It is a remarkable feat and the artistic skill on display will leave you in awe. Snuggle down in your thermal sleeping bag, on your bed of ice and snow, insulated with reindeer skins, and enjoy the silence and serenity around you.
A relaxed atmosphere pervades the hotel but with a serious approach to food. The menus served change with the season and focuses on use of local produce from the neighbouring river and nearby fjord and mountain plateau.

- Beds are made out of snow and ice and insulated by a mattress and topped with reindeer skins
- You will be provided with a subzero sleeping bag (single or double, as requested)
- All rooms have curtain doors. Suites have a wooden door
- Bathroom facilities (toilet, shower, changing rooms and lockers) are located in the warm main building
- Luggage cannot be taken into the cold accommodation structure. Secure storage is available
- Inside the hotel the temperature is at a constant -5°C to -8°C
- Cold accommodation is not recommended for children under 6 years
- Due to the unique nature of the Igloo Hotel, it takes a different form each year. Opening and closing dates are very much dependent on the weather.
